Video Interview

In the latest edition of Humans of Abelemkpe, we turn the spotlight on Benjamin, a new but already valued member of the Lincoln Community School family. As a security guard on campus, Benjamin plays a vital role in keeping students, staff, and facilities safe—but his story goes far beyond the school gates.

Originally from a different part of the country, Benjamin recently moved to Abelemkpe in the middle of last month. He came to live with his brother, searching for opportunity and a fresh start. “I didn’t want to just sit at home and be lonely,” he explained. “I wanted to do something, to work and earn money.”

Though security work was not always his ambition, Benjamin took the job at Lincoln to support himself while preparing for his next chapter. “Our main purpose here is to protect life and property,” he said. “That’s what we do every day.”

But Benjamin’s true passion lies in a very different field: healthcare. “I just completed school,” he shared. “After this, I want to go to nursing training. I want to become a nurse.”

His decision to pursue nursing stems from a strong desire to help others. It’s a path that contrasts with his current duties, yet both professions are rooted in care and protection—a natural fit for someone with Benjamin’s mindset.

In his short time at Lincoln, Benjamin has found the environment to be welcoming and peaceful. “Everything is cool,” he said with a smile. “I haven’t experienced anything bad. It feels safe and inclusive.”

Benjamin’s story is one of quiet determination. He reminds us that every member of our community—whether a student, teacher, or staff member—has a journey, a goal, and a dream worth supporting. As he guards our campus today, we look forward to the day he’ll be guarding lives in a hospital tomorrow.
