Our Vision

Humans of Abelemkpe began as a student-led initiative inspired by the global Humans of New York movement — a storytelling platform that highlights the extraordinary in the everyday. At Lincoln Community School, we saw the need to better connect with and honor the people who make up the Abelemkpe neighborhood — not just the students and teachers, but also the guards, vendors, drivers, residents, and community leaders who give this area its spirit and strength.

What started as a few casual interviews quickly grew into a larger effort to document the diverse experiences, memories, hopes, and challenges of those around us. With every photo, video, and conversation, we’ve come to realize just how rich and layered our community really is. The stories we collect — whether it’s a longtime mayor working to keep the streets clean and safe, a security guard dreaming of becoming a nurse, or a coach who’s seen Abelemkpe evolve over 25 years — remind us that everyone has something worth sharing.

This project is more than just a digital gallery; it's a celebration of human connection, a record of local voices, and an invitation to see our neighbors with new eyes. As Lincoln students, we are proud to share these narratives with the broader world and to deepen our sense of belonging, purpose, and empathy in the process.

Our Team.
